Behind the Brush: Why Our Makeup is School Safe

Behind the Brush: Why Our Makeup is School Safe

Whether you’re going back to school in the classroom or the living room, here are 3 reasons why our nut-free, pediatrician-approved products make the grade.

No matter how much (or little) glitter we wear, Petite ‘n Pretty never covers up its core values. To us that means expression is everything and for everyone, and safety is the expectation — never the exception. In our series, Behind the Brush, we go deeper into what our core values mean, what makes up our makeup and above all how we aspire to inspire creativity in all young creatives.

Today’s haute topic: Why our makeup is school-safe.

Study Haul - Back to School Makeup SetFor our Sparkle Squad, self-expression is everything—and that’s just as true during the school year as it is during summer break. If the dress code allows it, a pop of glossy lip balm or a subtle feathered brow can be a great way for tweens and teens to channel their creativity before they head to class. (Virtual class included.) But there’s one question we often hear from parents: Is Petite ‘n Pretty makeup safe to wear to school?

The answer is yes! Our founder, Sam Cutler, set out to create formulas that are safe for all young creatives, and we’ve more than delivered on that mission. Read on to find out why our makeup makes the grade, from ingredient lists to color choices and everything in between.

Our makeup is nut-free and gluten-free

Research shows that around two children in every classroom today are likely to have food allergies. Peanuts and tree nuts are two of the most common food allergies in children today—in fact, peanut allergies among kids increased by 21 percent between 2010 and 2017.

9021-BUNGALOW! Eye & Cheek PaletteFor this reason, many classrooms have banned products containing nuts. Fortunately, Petite ‘n Pretty makeup has always been 100% nut-free, so students can bring it to school without risking the safety of themselves or their classmates. And if your child or their classmates have a gluten sensitivity? Our products are free of that ingredient, too.

Our shades are age-appropriate

Every school has its own regulations around makeup—not to mention that families all have different rules about wearing makeup to school. But in general, we created all of our products to be age-appropriate, and many are tame enough for teens and tweens to wear to schools with more lenient dress codes.

Study HaulFor an average school day, the Sparkle Squad is loving our new Study Haul Back to School Makeup Set. It includes our Featherlight Clear Mascara and Brow Gel, as well as a sheer coral-pink Glo$$ Balm—exclusive to this set!—and a Petite ‘n Pretty pencil. For special occasions, like music recitals or school dances, add some extra sparkle with our L.A. Luster Glitter Hair Spray or one of our 10K Shine Lip Glosses. Either way, you can trust that our shade range will be suitable for a wide range of activities during the school year.

Our makeup is pediatrician-approved

Petite ‘n Pretty products aren’t just safe for school—they’re safe for every scenario, thanks to the strict safety standards we’ve developed with our medical advisory board. Not only is our collection free from potentially harmful ingredients such as parabens, phthalates, and talc, but we’ve also worked with a pediatric occupational therapist and pediatric psychologist to ensure they’re good for kids’ motor skills and mental health.

Featherlight Clear Mascara & Brow GelFor one thing, all of our brushes and wands have been designed for petite features, helping kids and teens improve hand-eye coordination, artistry, and other skills. We also clinically test our products to ensure that young creatives feel fun and expressive while using them—and that our makeup helps to increase confidence and self-esteem. These things all have an impact on the school experience, so it’s important that we get them right!

Whether you’re starting this school year in the classroom or the living room, we’re here to help kids, tweens, and teens feel inspired as they head back to class.
